all i've used is fire magic. i tried water but not a fan.
[He got soaked.]
but he was from the water tribe or something right??? so he's probably better at that
[It is very hard to forget the details of someone's life when you were trapped in a bubble under the ocean with them. Zuko's life will be something he can seriously never forget.]
[ Zuko's life is a saga worth remembering, it'd make a great plotline in a TV show or something. ]
you can use fire?!?!! train with me hikaru! i can't do it. just that night with gokudera when i was angry. i can use air pretty well now. i haven't learned water or earth yet.... im sure water will be hard for me cuz its opposite to my nature as a firebender.. but i want my fire back as soon as possible
[ He's diligent, structured, and a bit thick, and is treating this as if it's Avatar training, mastering one element at a time, rather than playing with many at once like others he's met. He's also found he's having more emotional trouble with his magic than others he's met because of his psychological attachment to the idea of fire magic as part of his identity and being, and the deep unrest that he's unable to do it, which blocks him from doing it at least in his head; it's a sad catch-22 he's caught himself in. His magic is extra tied to his emotions because... well... everything is for Zuko.
He's not a fast learner, or a natural talent at much of anything, but he's a dedicated student who's been busting his ass from dawn til dusk trying to master this new magic. He's determined to get his flames even if they're the last thing he has to learn. But he wants them now, like, yesterday. The idea of training in firebending with Hikaru is somewhat absurd, let alone the idea of Hikaru training Zuko, but he's not kidding about it. Of course he's not. Say yes and Hikaru's dooming himself to wake up before sunrise for this fireless firebitch. He's serious. ]
[Hikaru does know that Zuko is probably going crazy without his firebending (technically not firebending but whatever) and he definitely understands because Zuko's never not been passionate in talking about his flame.
But Hikaru also knows Zuko well enough to realize that if he says yes...]
you're not waking me up before the sun's up.
[He's not even against the idea of training with Zuko but he will not wake up before at least 9am thanks.]
so?!?! we're training with fire!!! you'll get warm quick! i once hauled the avatar around unconscious on my back for miles through a blizzard in the tundra in the north pole, that was cold come on hikaru!!!!
cuz then youll get tired faster if you start when its already that hot and its better to get an early start in the day anyway just like in general... you get more accomplished
no way...... you're just being dramatic... right??
[ He's really not sure; it could be that culturally no one gets up at dawn where Hikaru's from — or it could just be that he's rich and has no motivation to. That's Zuko's bet, but he really... can't tell... ]
yeah its what you’d call the master who teaches you to bend
:).......
[ Thinking of Hikaru as a firebending master is hilarious to the fire prince, because oh man, it’s a cool and terrifying image of Hikaru trying to teach Aang or something. Just the thought of Hikaru firebending is amusing, really, and it makes him look forward even more to this training, amused but apprehensive, too. Zuko's getting experimental with his texting here, because how do you convey humor over text...? Apparently like that. It’s funny because he seldom smiles. That means it’s a joke, even if he’s not actually smiling when he texts a smiling emoticon, he’s learned recently. He’s getting the gist of modern things slowly, even if he’s maybe a little creepy and awkward and funny getting it. ]

let’s just get UP at sunrise and then it’ll be bright by the time we’re there
compromise?
as you move around you’ll heat up and get more energy plus again we’re training with fire you’ll be warm enough
